Respite Care Services
What are Respite Care Services?
The Respite Care program is intended to give temporary relief to families providing
care to their children who are developmentally disabled or severely emotionally
impaired by arranging time away from stressful daily living situations.
Who can benefit from Respite Care Services?
A family with a developmentally disabled or serious emotionally disturbed child
may be eligible for Respite Care Services. The child must be living at home and
respite care must be provided by someone other than a permanent resident in the
child’s home. Priority in provision of services is given to individuals with the
most severe need and to those in urge or emergent situations.
How do Respite Care Services help an individual?
A Respite Coordinator helps to arrange for a mentor, family friend, or family support
worker to provide in home respite service, out of home outings, or overnight visits
as appropriate. The Respite Coordinator supports the family members in receiving
time away from their daily routine and in reducing the risk of foster care, residential
placement and hospitalization.
How can you access Respite Care Services?
An individual may request services directly by another service agency or professional.
