Vocational Services
What are Vocational Services?
Vocational Services provide employment skill training to facilitate entrance into
the work force. Education regarding work responsibilities and interests help an
individual develop skills to find, learn and maintain employment that is meaningful
to them. Vocational Services are generally provided within the community or employment
setting, and varies in intensity based on the needs of the individual being served.
Who can benefit from Vocational Services?
An individual with a developmental disability, mental illness, or substance abuse
diagnosis may be eligible for Vocational Services. Priority in provisions of services
is given to individuals with the most severe need and to those in urgent or emergent
situations.
How do Vocational Services Help an Individual?
Vocational Services help an individual become employed by local companies and to
more full participate in the community. A person centered treatment approach is
used to help identify an individual’s strengths, dreams, goals and desires. Vocational
Services help to increase economic self-sufficiency, develop employment skills,
build relationships with co-workers and other community members, and strengthen
an individual’s natural support system. On-going support is provided to ensure quality
production and consistent worker behaviors. A Supports Coordinator may help to access
the most appropriate vocational program.
How can you access the Vocational Services?
An individual may request services directly by another service agency or professional.
