Psychiatric Services
What are Psychiatric Services?
Psychiatric Services are designed to avert the need for psychiatric hospital admissions.
Psychiatric assessment and/or medication assessment and prescription may be provided
based on the needs of the individual. Services can be provided on a one to one basis
or in a group setting and may include psychiatric evaluation; medication prescription,
assessment, monitoring, and titration; medication teaching and education; and laboratory
test monitoring. Services can be prearranged or provided to individuals in crisis
situations.
Who can benefit from Psychiatric Services?
An individual with a mental illness or developmental disability may be eligible
for Psychiatric Services. Priority in provision of services is given to individuals
with the most sever need and to those in urgent or emergent situations.
How do Psychiatric Services help an individual?
Treatment is provided by an authorized mental health professional to support individuals
in more fully participating in their community. A person centered treatment approach
is used to help identify an individual’s strengths, dreams, goals, and desires.
A comprehensive evaluation that investigates an individual’s presenting problem;
history of current illness; previous psychiatric, physical and medication history;
relevant personal and family history; personal strengths and a mental status exam
is completed to determine treatment recommendations. Evaluating and monitoring medications,
their effects, and the need for continuing or changing the medication regimen may
be recommended by the Psychiatrist
How can you access Psychiatric Services?
An individual may request services directly by another service agency or professional.
